GAP Industries recently delivered a comprehensive lighting upgrade at Toowoomba Sports Ground, significantly enhancing safety, performance and visibility for both community and high-level sport.
Delivered on behalf of the Queensland Government, the project was designed to replace outdated infrastructure and provide modern facilities that support local sporting pathways and community activation programs.
Supporting Grassroots and High-Performance Sport Through Smarter Infrastructure
Toowoomba Sports Ground, home to the Toowoomba Clydesdales, plays a vital role in the regional sports landscape. With the existing field lighting infrastructure no longer meeting performance standards, the Department of Sport and Recreation engaged GAP Industries to deliver a compliant, energy-efficient lighting solution to meet the needs of players, coaches and the wider community.
The key objective was to raise the average lighting level across the field from approximately 300 lux to 500 lux, delivering consistent coverage and uniformity in accordance with sporting facility guidelines.
The project aligns with broader state government priorities around revitalising community sporting infrastructure, ensuring safe and inclusive access to facilities across regional Queensland.
Project Scope and Delivery
GAP Industries was selected for this project based on its strong regional presence, competitive pricing and proven capability in delivering technical infrastructure projects across Queensland.
Working in partnership with Musco Lighting, GAP Industries delivered a complete lighting solution that met or exceeded all performance expectations. The scope of works included:
- Safe demolition and removal of four 28-metre existing light poles
- Design and installation of new black lighting poles to blend with the site environment
- Relocation of electrical infrastructure to field corners, improving site access and safety
- Installation of four new 24-metre Musco lighting poles, each equipped with eight precision LED luminaires
- Drilling and construction of 6-metre-deep concrete foundations to support new infrastructure
- Crane lift and pole erection, lighting aiming and final lux level testing
The system was engineered for longevity, low maintenance and reduced energy consumption, providing an immediate uplift in lighting quality with minimal impact on future operational budgets.
Commitment to Safety, Quality and Environmental Standards
Throughout the project lifecycle, GAP Industries maintained a strong focus on workplace safety, environmental management and delivery quality.
Site preparation included vacuum excavation and service locating to avoid underground service disruption, while daily pre-start meetings ensured cross-crew alignment, including excavation, electrical, cranage and landscaping teams.
Internal defect reviews, detailed handover processes, and reinstatement of affected grounds were all carried out in accordance with GAP Industries’ ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System, further reinforcing the company’s reputation for safe, compliant and reliable project delivery.
This collaborative approach resulted in a smooth delivery, with the client describing the experience as effortless.
Long-Term Value for the Community
