GAP Industries North Queensland delivered sports lighting upgrade works in Airlie Beach QLD for Musco Lighting Australia Pty Ltd, supporting AFL lighting infrastructure at Whitsunday Sports Park.
The project included new poles and LED upgrades at Whitsunday AFL Oval. The scope involved one 25 metre lighting pole replacement, retrofit works to existing poles, new cross arms, Musco LED fixtures, removal of existing fittings, reuse of suitable submains and integration with existing electrical infrastructure.
The project was completed on 31 March 2026 and valued at $100,822.12.

Sports Lighting Upgrade at Whitsunday Sports Park
GAP Industries North Queensland completed the lighting upgrade at Whitsunday Sports Park in Airlie Beach to support AFL night games and regular community sport.
The works combined new lighting infrastructure with suitable existing assets. This allowed the oval to receive an upgraded Musco LED system while retaining infrastructure suitable for integration.
The lighting configuration supported consistent coverage across the playing surface and long term operational efficiency.
Scope of Works Delivered
25 Metre Lighting Pole Replacement
GAP Industries North Queensland replaced one 25 metre lighting pole as part of the upgrade.
The new pole supported the Musco LED sports lighting system and formed part of the upgraded field lighting infrastructure at Whitsunday Sports Park.
Retrofit Works to Existing Poles
GAP Industries North Queensland retrofitted existing poles with new cross arms.
Existing fittings were removed so the new Musco LED fixtures could be installed. Retaining suitable infrastructure helped control project cost, reduce downtime and limit unnecessary replacement work.
Musco LED Sports Lighting Fixtures
The project included six Musco LED fixtures per pole.
The upgraded lighting system provided stronger illumination across Whitsunday AFL Oval and clearer visibility for players, officials and spectators during night games.
Reuse of Suitable Existing Submains
Suitable existing submains were retained and integrated into the upgraded lighting system.
This reduced unnecessary replacement work, supported efficient delivery and helped limit waste while maintaining safety and long term reliability.
Concrete Foundations
GAP Industries completed drilling and construction of 6 metre deep concrete foundations to support the new poles.
These foundation works provided the structural support required for long term operation of the upgraded lighting infrastructure.
Integration with Existing Electrical Infrastructure
GAP Industries North Queensland integrated the upgraded lighting system with existing electrical infrastructure at the site.
The works required assessment of existing assets, installation of new lighting components and electrical delivery suited to a regional sports facility.
Lighting Performance and Infrastructure Reuse
The Musco LED system supported better lighting uniformity across Whitsunday AFL Oval.
Consistent lighting helps reduce glare and shadows, supports ball tracking and provides clearer playing conditions for AFL night matches. LED sports lighting also reduces energy use compared with older metal halide systems.
Where existing assets remained suitable, GAP Industries North Queensland retained and integrated them into the upgraded system, helping reduce installation time, waste and unnecessary cost.
