Toowoomba Sports Ground Lighting Upgrade for Department of Sport QLD

GAP Industries delivered sports lighting upgrade works in Toowoomba QLD at Toowoomba Sports Ground for the Department of Sport, Racing and Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The works upgraded sports lighting infrastructure for a public sporting facility in the Toowoomba and Darling Downs region. GAP Industries delivered the works in partnership with Musco Lighting, replacing outdated field lighting infrastructure with a modern LED sports lighting system.

Toowoomba Sports Ground is home to the Toowoomba Clydesdales and supports local sport, community use and higher level competition. The lighting upgrade raised the average field lighting level from approximately 300 lux to 500 lux, giving the playing area stronger coverage and more consistent illumination.

Sports Lighting Upgrade at Toowoomba Sports Ground

GAP Industries delivered the lighting upgrade at Toowoomba Sports Ground to replace field lighting infrastructure that was no longer meeting the required performance standards for the site.

The works were delivered on behalf of the Queensland Government and supported the objective of strengthening community sporting infrastructure across regional Queensland.

The completed system provides more reliable lighting conditions for evening training, matches, coaching, officiating and spectator viewing at a regional public sports ground.

Scope of Works Delivered

Removal of Existing Light Poles

GAP Industries completed the safe demolition and removal of four existing 28 metre light poles.

This allowed the site to transition from ageing lighting infrastructure to a modern LED sports lighting system designed for the operational requirements of Toowoomba Sports Ground.

New Musco Lighting Pole Installation

GAP Industries installed four new 24 metre Musco lighting poles.

Each pole was fitted with eight precision LED luminaires, providing stronger lighting output and more even coverage across the playing surface.

Black Lighting Poles

GAP Industries installed new black lighting poles selected to blend with the surrounding site environment.

The black finish helped the new poles sit more naturally within the sports ground environment.

Electrical Infrastructure Relocation

The works included relocation of electrical infrastructure to the field corners.

This arrangement supported better site access and helped organise electrical assets around the upgraded lighting layout.

Concrete Foundations

GAP Industries completed drilling and construction of 6 metre deep concrete foundations to support the new poles.

These foundation works provided the structural support required for long term operation of the upgraded lighting infrastructure.

Crane Lift, Pole Erection and Lighting Aiming

The project included crane lift works, pole erection, lighting aiming and final lux level testing.

Final aiming and testing helped verify lighting performance across the field and supported the target uplift from approximately 300 lux to 500 lux.

Vacuum Excavation and Service Locating

Site preparation included vacuum excavation and service locating to reduce the risk of underground service disruption.

This was required because the works involved field infrastructure, foundations, electrical relocation and external site conditions.

Safety, Quality and Delivery Controls

GAP Industries maintained a strong focus on workplace safety, environmental management and delivery quality throughout the project.

Daily prestart meetings supported coordination between excavation, electrical, cranage and landscaping teams. GAP Industries also carried out internal defect reviews, detailed handover processes and reinstatement of affected grounds in line with its ISO 9001 certified Quality Management System.

These controls supported safe delivery across a public sporting asset where pole removal, foundation construction, lifting activity, electrical works and site reinstatement all had to be coordinated.

Delivery Value for Toowoomba Sports Ground

The completed upgrade gave Toowoomba Sports Ground a modern sports lighting system suited to evening use, local sport and higher level competition.

By replacing outdated infrastructure with new Musco lighting poles, precision LED luminaires, relocated electrical infrastructure and verified lux levels, GAP Industries supported safer field use and clearer visibility across the playing area.

The LED system reduced maintenance demand and energy use compared with the previous lighting infrastructure, supporting long term value for the regional facility.
